Dars grill, Hampstead

I haven't been to London for a while, so I did a little homework close to where I was staying and decided on Dars Grill as my target. I made a good choice. Rough and ready but clean, its a cafe not a restaurant.

The guys working there were very friendly and its obviously popular as an affordable eatery in a posh part of the city. I had the samosas but couldn't resist a little chana and some aloo ticki as well.

The pastry was delicious, freshly cooked crispy and hot. Just the right thickness. There was a nice amount of filling. The filling was nice but not mind blowing. There were some nice spices and the texture was good. Maybe a bit more flavour, a little more moisture and some coriander would have lifted things though.

There was an odd sulphurous powder on the outside of the pastry which I didn't like much, also perhaps a little salad would have be been good or some onion in the chutney to offset the fried pastry?
I am being picky here though to be fair, these were good samosas. The chutney was tasty and green too.

Following on , the aloo ticki were really very excellent , a good size and full of flavour.
As you can likely see from the photograph, the chana was a thing of beauty. It was fruity, healthy, fresh and delicious. A nice complement to the fried food.

I left very full and happy. A well earned 8.0
