Kebabish Original, Huddersfield

So kebabish has been a favourite of mine for years for its fine curries.
It is a bit rough around the edges at times. From the outside it looks like a dodgy kebab shop. Only a recommendation would send you through the door.
Come inside though and you will find it usually busy at any time of day and a fairly smart interior that gets smarter every year.
The starters were always good here. The bajis , the samosas and especially the paneer tikka.
We are here for triangular goodness though. At a very reasonable £2 per pair when eating in, why wouldn’t you try?
I think the samosas are generally reheated. But as a result they have a mix of soft pastry in the middle and crispy around the edges, it works well. It is proper pastry and not filo , and proportioned very well with the filling. Plump and crunchy with a nice flavoured outer.
The filling is lovely too. Spicy and full of flavour. Visible chillies showing up and a nice mix of veg. It’s quite salty which makes it work well but enough salt to probably stop you eating ten - which is what I feel like doing after the first two.
Kebabish always provides big bottles of yogurt sauce and chilli sauce on the table. This is great as the sauces are lovely and it means you won’t run out. The samosas don’t need a lot of sauce though. They are moist and full of flavour so there is no need to drown the samosas for them to be at their best. I did drown my order of paneer though and the salad that came with the samosas. The two sauces go really well together.
If (unlike the author) you weren’t greedy , 2 samosas is very good value as a light and tasty lunch - and for only £2. If you can though , follow it up with a curry. You won’t regret it.
A solid 8.5 today.
