While at York Food Festival with the kiddies (attempting to save money by avoiding an expensive restaurant of their choice) we ate delicious Greek Gyros. We were going to call it a day at that point, when out of the corner of my eye I spotted two crispy triangles calling to me.
It turns out they were Punjabi samosas. Having come across a few of these recently , all of which were great , I made the right choice and answered their call.
Given the already full bellies, the purchase was carried home for tea later. A samosa well travelled and reheated is always going to be at a disadvantage and with this in mind , after a minute in the microwave , hopes weren’t too high. But wow! The pastry remained crisp despite its journey since its initial cooking and was very tasty. As with all of the Punjabi samosas i have had so far , they are plump and well stuffed with filling. The filling was a good mix of veg and each ingredient was identifiable and perfectly cooked. Spices were perfect too - quite fiery but in a warm and tasty way. My only criticism is that the pastry was a tiny fraction overcooked and they were a little greasy but I am being incredibly picky given the far from ideal eating circumstances.
These little tasty chaps have been crowned our new champions with a score of 9.0 ! Great job 29 States!
I have reviewed these as though they were from the restaurant rather than the food festival as the restaurant is close by and if they can make samosas that good on a market stall, I have faith that the restaurant will be impressive too - and I intend to find out as soon as possible.
